TRAINEESHIP

Draughtsperson (m/f/d) specialising in architecture

Training type:Dual system
Training duration:36 months
Requirements:Intermediate secondary school leaving certificate
Vocational school:Weiden i.d.OPf.

FIELD OF ACTIVITY

Draughtspersons specialising in architecture work mainly in our construction department, but also at the customer’s premises (in Germany or abroad) if they have to oversee or survey a site. They create drawings and construction documents for glass melting plants, distributor channels, drawings for buildings and other structures. They normally do this work on a computer using CAD (Computer Aided Design) programs. They create layout plans, design and construction drawings, building elevations and detailed drawings, working to preliminary sketches or the instructions of architects, construction engineers and technicians, while taking into account the requirements of the relevant technical standards. In addition to their drawing work, they also perform engineering calculations. For example, they work out material requirements, create parts lists and the finished sizes to graphically describe the work to be done and give all the dimensions. They supervise the design and construction processes of construction projects and ensure that the required documents, calculations and bills of quantities are available at the right time. Draughtspersons administer the different drawing versions created for the project and ensure the project data is properly stored.

WHAT DO YOU NEED?

Care and attention to detail are important for producing precise drawings in accordance with the standards and requirements of the project. Knowledge of industrial practices and engineering are required to create assembly drawings and details of construction components. Mathematics is required for engineering calculations. Knowledge of physics is helpful, because designs have to consider aspects such as structural engineering, building physics and thermal properties. Some previous knowledge of data processing is an advantage when creating drawings using CAD programs.
